Letter 6 -What is the Mind of Christ?-

What is the Mind of Christ?

If I could explain what it is to put on the mind of Christ… I would not be able to. It is a process. A long and slow process. A personal process that requires a close relationship with Jesus Christ.

“But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you”

Matthew 6:6 NIV

There is something special about spending intimate time with someone. When you go into your room it becomes a private space that you share with whoever it is that you let in. There is such a vulnerability in this space and when it is used to pray to meet Jesus, you will meet Jesus! The Lord is calling you to spend time with Him in secret to know Him. The more time you spend with Him the easier it is to understand the mind of Christ and put on the mind like Christ.

The only way to truly know someone is by spending time with them. Investing in a relationship is a commitment that requires daily time and effort. In Matthew he writes to go into your room and meet with Him, the Lord with good reason. Get rid of all distractions and just focus on your relationship with Jesus. Make it a time and space where you not only speak to God but you also allow God to speak to you.

If you go back and read Letter 5, there I share tips on how to distinguish what voice belongs to who and what it is to pray. Prayer is one way to help put on the mind of Christ. Another way of putting on the mind of Christ is by reading His word.

“All scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work”

2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV

Every word written in the Bible is from God which is why it is profitable for teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness. The word of God has power and is power that is why it is the Sword of the Spirit for we do not wrestle against flesh and bones. Studying the word will equip you for every situation for it is learning and beginning to understand the mind of Christ.

“Training in righteousness” this part of the verse brings the next point on how to put on the mind of Christ. It is not just reading the word and praying in a secret place but it is also walking in what the Lord is speaking. That means being obedient to God and standing up for His truth even if you end up standing alone. That also means doing what is right even when no one is looking.

Who do we Please?

Our goal is not to please man (men and women), our goal is to please God. To be a living sacrifice to Him daily. It is to choose His will over ours. It is to choose what does not make sense to us but to Him. To do it because it is what He said. Obedience is an important key to putting on the mind of Christ. Above all, it is pleasing to the Lord.

“For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ”

Galatians 1:10 ESV

Our goal is to seek God’s approval in what we do because we are trying to be pleasing to the Lord. What is pleasing to God? A righteous person! A person who seeks to do what God has instructed. It is a person that is willing and committed to the Lord. A person who purposefully chooses the Lord above themselves.

Now, what is Jesus calling you out to do?

If you do not know, I encourage you to pray and ask Him. The time is now. Why wait for tomorrow if tomorrow is not guaranteed?

“But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His Kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right–the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also”

Matthew 6:33 AMP

When we first seek His Kingdom and Righteousness we are putting Him above ourselves. In obedience God delights–just like He takes care of the birds and dresses the flower fields, He will be faithful to take care of you.
